I recently purchased Microsoft Office Standard 2007 from one of Amazon’s vendors. I purchased this book because I love the “Dummies Series” of books because they are written with the every day person in mind. I would recommend this book for anyone who wnts to learn more about the particular program..Powerpoint.

This book is not one you read from front to back it is designed to be used to look up certain areas of interest in using PowerPoint. I find this book covers the program very well and helps give pointers on how to use your PowerPoints with Microsoft Producer for creating Videos for the Web

This is a great series and this book is one of the best. I looked for the simplest, most understandable book that would not take me a year to read through. I hadn’t much faith, knowing how techy books, especially for software, were: complex, assuming you know more than you do. It shows you everything you need to do in a really nice, colorful design. The author clearly knows her way around PowerPoint and her tips alone are worth the price of the book and reviews.

This book is so enjoyable to use, and so simple for your PC Powerpoint software, I could start from square one and complete my presentation in one evening. I wish I could write Nancy and thank her! If you have never worked with Power Point, or think it is too complicated, this is the book for you. Forget the classes, just get this book.

According to USA Today , the Higher Education Opportunity Act requires colleges to release required book lists when students register for classes. Publishers are required to disclose prices and revision information to schools

Internet vendors are set to benefit from the law. The newspaper said that Borders launched an online textbook marketplace recently to buy or sell books with other students or sell them to an outside company. Amazon said that more than 1 million textbooks are eligible for its buy-back program through which textbooks can be exchanged for an Amazon.com gift card.

"Until this year, many schools didn’t give the book list until the week before classes, and you really had no choice but to head to the college bookstore," said Christine Frietchen, editor in chief of ConsumerSearch.com, to USA Today.

The storyline has still been kept under wraps for Dan browns new novel “The lost symbol”, but it is believed to focus on freemasonry, with the lost symbol of the title a reference to a ciphered pictogram in an ancient book called The Key of Solomon.

Brown had said that writing the new novel was "a strange and wonderful journey".

Solution:

There is no free legal powerpoint software.
HOWEVER, go to Microsoft website and you can download a free 60 day trial of it.
at the end of 60 days…it will cease to work unless you purchase.

openoffice.org has a program called impress that is very similar, and its free. Just when you save make sure to select powerpoint from the little drop down menu where it says format.

Alternatives

There are alternatives that read and write PowerPoint files. There are two packages I’m aware of.
1. OpenOffice (Impress) is a presentation software that’s bundled with four other applications that include a word processor, spreadsheet application to name a few. It’s capable of saving presentations as .ppt files (you’ll see this option when you click File– then "Save As" an option called "Save as type" drop down menu. I’ve used it on various different occasions and have found that it works beautifully.
2. Lotus Symphony Presentations is also a presentation software that is bundled with a word processor and spreadsheet application. It’s quite similar to OpenOffice but has a very unique and different layout that may not cater towards everyone’s taste. It does have some useful features such as exporting presentation to PDF (Not sure if OpenOffice Impress has it).
Note: Lotus Symphony Suite is in Beta mode and requires a decent amount of RAM (1Gb Recommended. 512 bare minimum to get by).
